Easy release handbrakes
Some people have difficulty pressing the button on the handbrake due to a disability or weakness in their hands, fingers or thumbs. The easy release handbrake allows the driver to release the handbrake in one simple movement, without pressing the button.
Because the handbrake still has to be pulled up in the standard way, this product may not suit everyone’s needs. If you experience problems pulling the handbrake please look at our section on electric handbrakes.
Electric handbrakes
It’s not uncommon for drivers to struggle with pulling the handbrake up in their vehicle. This may be due to disabilities or weaknesses in the hands, arms, elbows, shoulders, etc.
With an electric handbrake we disable the standard handbrake and replace it with a switch or button on the dashboard, making the process as simple as pushing a button or flicking a switch! The device can be fitted to most makes and models of vehicles.
Easy release gear levers
Some people have difficulty pressing the button on the gear lever due to a disability or weakness in their hands, fingers or thumbs. The Easy Release Gear Lever allows the driver to operate the gear lever without needing to press the button. It is almost identical to the Easy Release Handbrake but a little more bespoke, because gear levers are very often different in their design.
Electric gear selectors
It’s not uncommon for people to struggle to move the gear lever in their vehicle, due to disabilities or weaknesses in their hands, arms, elbows, shoulders, etc.
The Electric Gear Selector consists of a control panel which can be located more or less anywhere on the dashboard within easy access of the driver. The standard gear lever is removed and the Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive functions can then be selected by pressing the appropriate button. This product is only designed for use in automatic vehicles.
Remote ignition switches
The Remote ignition switch is designed for people who have difficulty in turning the key for the ignition in the barrel.
With some clever wiring we can make your ignition ‘switch operated’, so it is as simple as flicking a switch and pressing a starter button. These can be fitted on the dashboard wherever it is most suitable for the driver.
Lightened power steering
Drivers with reduced strength in their upper body can often find the steering on their vehicle too heavy to drive comfortably. Lightening the power steering can provide a good solution to this problem, because it makes it far easier to turn the wheel. The degree of lightness will depend on the needs of each individual, but it can be lightened to the extent that it’s possible to spin the steering wheel with only one finger!
Lightened power steering is also ideal for those drivers using just one hand to steer.
Not all vehicles are suitable for lightened power steering, however most are. Please call us for further information.
Reduced size / Removable steering wheels
There are a number of reasons people may wish to replace their steering wheel with one that is smaller in size. Drivers with limited movement in their upper limbs may find this adaptation makes driving much easier. It is also a good solution for people driving their vehicles from a wheelchair (in a wheelchair accessible vehicle) because the space they have between the steering wheel and their legs is more limited.
We can also fit a ‘quick release system’ which allows the steering wheel to be removed (and replaced), making an enormous difference to the accessibility of the vehicle.
